Dispensary payment processing and ATMs in Michigan.
Debit, credit acceptance, online payments and a fully serviced ATM for licensed Michigan retailers, medical and adult-use, from Detroit to the Upper Peninsula.
The Michigan market
How cannabis is licensed in Michigan.
Michigan runs two licensed markets side by side. The Cannabis Regulatory Agency, part of the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, licenses both medical marihuana facilities and adult-use establishments, runs the patient and caregiver registry and a social equity program. Many operators hold both kinds of license at the same address, so one checkout often serves registered patients and adult customers in the same line.
It is also one of the most competitive retail markets in the country: a lot of stores, often close together, competing on convenience as much as anything else. When a customer reaches the counter and learns you are cash only, the store down the road is rarely far away. Inventory is tracked through the state’s Metrc system, so your POS already has to talk to other software; payments should fit that workflow rather than add a second one.
Payments and ATMs
How Sprout works for Michigan stores.
For a Michigan store the usual setup is PIN debit at the counter for everyday sales, with online and pre-order payments for pickup and delivery orders placed ahead. Some clients add credit card acceptance; before you sign, we explain in writing how those transactions are processed, what appears on the customer’s statement, every fee, and the card-network and state rules that apply.
A dispensary ATM covers the customers who still want cash, at no cost to your store: we supply the machine, install it, keep it loaded, connected and repaired. The customer sees the convenience fee on screen before confirming. For multi-license operators, we can look at each location separately, since a busy adult-use storefront and a smaller medical-focused one rarely need the same mix.
Local considerations
Worth knowing in Michigan.
Dual-licensed stores
If you hold both a medical and an adult-use license, tell us how your registers are split. We set up reporting so you can see card and ATM activity per location.
Delivery
If your license and municipality allow delivery, drivers can take card payments at the door with mobile hardware, or customers can pay ahead online.
Local approval
Michigan cities and townships decide locally whether to allow licensed businesses. Local rules are yours to confirm with your municipality; we fit around the store you already have.
Questions
Michigan dispensary payments and ATMs.
Can a Michigan provisioning center take debit cards?
Yes, many licensed Michigan retailers accept PIN debit today, and it is usually the first thing we set up. How it runs depends on your POS and hardware; we check both before quoting. See debit card processing for how it works at the counter and curbside.
Does Sprout work with both medical and adult-use stores in Michigan?
Yes. We work with licensed businesses under either kind of CRA license, and with operators who hold both. Your license status and local approval are between you and the CRA and your municipality.
Is an ATM worth it in a crowded Michigan market?
Often, because it removes a reason for a cash customer to walk out and try another store. There is no cost to your dispensary for the machine, installation, cash or repairs; see dispensary ATM service for what is included.
